How To Get A Soccer Scholarship

The regulations concerning athletic grants are governed by the NCAA and applicants will need to register with the NCAA to begin the process of applying for those grants. Most colleges and universities have endowed scholarships for athletics as well as other departments.

Don't forget to look at soccer associations, whether youth or adult when searching for soccer scholarships. The ones listed here are typical of the ones you'll find in any city with a soccer association of which there are hundreds.

Men's/Women's Athletic Award - Soccer
Awarded to a college freshman who demonstrates talent and skill in the sport of soccer. Applicant can be either male or female student-athlete. Award is a minimum of $1500 and shall be no more than $8200.

Missouri State University - Springfield, MO

Robert Anthony Foster Soccer Scholarship Fund

Houghton College - Houghton, New York

Athletic Performance Scholarship
Awarded to college freshman for participation in certain sports including soccer. The amount of the scholarship varies however the average award is $4043. Scholarships Provided by Soccer Associations
Houston Women's Soccer Association (HWSA)

Applicant must be a soccer player in high school or at a youth club in the Houston area OR a current year HWSA soccer player. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be enrolled in a college or university or an undergraduate student already enrolled in a college or university. Applicant must also have a 2.5 GPA and submit a letter of recommendation along with scholarship application. Selection criteria include applicant's demonstrated community service and financial need. Award amount is $1,000.

Hackensack (NJ) Junior Soccer Association (HJSA) awards scholarships for 1 female and 1 male in the amount of $750. Applicants must have participated in at least 2 years of high school soccer OR have played soccer for the HJSA. High School graduating seniors who have been accepted to an accredited college/university are eligible for this award. Submit an essay of between 250-500 words detailing how soccer has prepared you for the adult world and 2 letters of recommendation from a coach or teacher attesting to the applicant's character and sportsmanship. Extracurricular activities and community service will also be taken under advisement.
